About My Friend Earl

By now you’ve all heard that Earl, the iconic, screaming high tenor in VoicePlay is no longer going to be performing with us, but if this is the first time that you’re receiving this sad news, it’s sure to come as a bit of a surprise and I apologize for that.

Now, If you’re wondering... ”but why…?"

Well, I’m afraid that I don’t have a truly solid answer for you except for the old trope that being part of a singing group for as long as we have is hard. It’s really really challenging to keep a group of people together, and we did it successfully for decades, but all of us have to be allowed to change and grow.

We’ve all seen our favorite bands go through changes like this, and if VoicePlay is your favorite, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. I want you to know that VoicePlay isn’t going anywhere. We’ve been through a very similar transformation in the not too distant past and we came out on the other side, different to be sure, but just as much VoicePlay as we ever were if not even more so.

For as long as I’ve known Earl he’s been a true friend, a kind soul, a great harmony singer, a force to be reckoned with, and a deeply private individual. If you don’t hear from him immediately about his departure from the band he may just be taking his time. We should allow him the space he needs and then support the heck out of him on whatever amazing path he follows next.

VoicePlay is releasing a new video tomorrow, July 10th, that we hope will express our sadness and also our optimism for the future of VoicePlay.

Keep on smiling.

-Geoff
